Myallergystore.net.com Review |

Let's face it. Most vacuums just don't cut it when it comes to really cleaning a home or office. Pesky pet hair embeds deeper in carpet than traditional vacuums go; bits and pieces of tracked-in dirt and debris hunker down under floor trim just out of reach of the latest brush innovations, rendering us to the silliness of handpicking behind that expensive vacuum, filling our pockets with lint, and wondering-who's really the boss? Troubles like these made the folks at Eureka get down and dirty and, ultimately, design the Boss Smart-Vac Upright Vacuum. Offering powerful performance for everyday household cleaning, the Eureka Boss is the solution for people who insist on having a truly clean home. The Boss's Direct Air Control System features an air selector switch that lets you direct all suction either deep into the carpet or to the hose for easy above-the-floor cleaning. The Power Paw brush makes it easy to clean stairs and upholstery, and even claws up embedded pet hair, so Fido can spend more time inside. The motorized brush lets you go from carpet- to bare floor-cleaning with the flick of a switch. The Boss Smart-Vac is powered by a beefy, 12-amp motor that provides plenty of suction power for deep cleaning carpets, and leaves nothing behind on hard floors. Pretty smart; right? Well, here's the really smart part. The Boss Smart-Vac isn't just the best household carpet- and floor-cleaning vacuum on the market; it's also equipped with a unique, sealed HEPA filtration system that captures 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, allergens, and bacteria. So, vacuuming the house doesn't mean you have to dust afterward, or sneeze while you're doing it. Cleaner carpets and cleaner indoor air at the same time! Plus, the Boss is loaded with user-friendly features to take the frustration out of vacuuming. A wide cleaning path covers a lot of ground quickly before company comes. And, unlike inferior models, the Boss is designed with a brush-view window that shows you how hard it's working, letting you actually see the powerful brush roller remove dirt from carpets and floors. The exclusive dust trap system captures debris and dust in three stages. A handy stretch hose extends to five times its original length for reaching around furniture and sucking the cobwebs off the ceiling. And, a 30-foot cord won't leave you coming up short. The bare floor brush is designed to smoothly glide across wood and tile floors while picking up more dust and debris in corners and along baseboards than any other model. --Brian Olson |

Five years and running strong! |
|
I purchased this vacuum over five years ago - and I have to say it is still going strong. I change the bags once or twice/month - and regularly clean the motor filter. I've changed the Hepa Filter twice since I bough it. I have three cats, two dogs, and three kids, and a spouse. Definitely worth the price - great at picking up pet hair; the hand held tool has strong suction - great for cleaning pet hair from furniture and drapes. Highly recommended! |

pleased so far |
Just bought this vac after consumer reprts reviewed it as one of their best buys. It is still new but it is soooo much easier than my old rainbow, with exhaust just as clean as the rainbow's water filtration system. It's suction is great and it is easy to use. I am somewhat easily impressed by the products weight because I have spent the last 10 years pulling on a rainbow, but of all the one's I checked out this one is not the lightest, but is lighter that some.
I can't remark on it's reliability because I have only had it for 2 months, but so far so very good.

Good vacuum but very weak plasic under carrige piece! |
|
This vacuum works very nicely when it's working. But it has a very weak clear plastic under carrige piece that breaks very easily! And we have been very careful with it too. I had to replace mine about 6 or 7 months after buying it. Thank goodness it was under warranty. The authorized repairman told me that it is a part that he replaces way to often. He said it's just a weak part and should be made stronger. He also said that that wasn't the only weak part on it either. And he told me if it's not under warranty, it's really expensive to get fixed. So buyer beware! Also the vacuum bag in this Eureka 4870GZ is less than half the size of the one in our old Hoover vacuum cleaner. It's realy small! I bought our Hoover back in 1993 from Best Buy and it's still working really well today if that tells you anything about how well we treat our vacuums. My son is now using it in his apartment. It's something to consider when thinking about buying this vacuum. The person that wrote the review "MAJOR REPAIR ISSUES! STAY AWAY FROM THIS VACUUM!, October 19, 2007" Is dead on about this vacuum! I have come to the same conclusion about this vacuum as well. Please stay away from this vacuum and buy something else. Do your research first and foremost on anything you plan on spending a lot of money on! |

I hate this appliance with a dull, resigned loathing |
My husband chose this vacuum after reviewing Consumer Reports write-ups, and all I can say is that the man was suckered by bad reports. He tried, he really did, but this vacuum is heavy, clunky and fails to deliver a decent cleaning.
The good things: the hose attachment is easy to use and very long and nicely stretchy. The extender tubes enable users to reach up into those difficult high corners with relative ease.
The bad things: pretty much everything else. The best cleaning comes right after you change the bag, and even then this appliance fails to pick up a huge amount of the debris that comes with pets. It leaves behind pet hair, fine dust-bunny dust, and pretty much anything heavier than a paperclip. It handles medium-pile carpets and bare floor okay, but does a poor job on flat-woven rugs. I end up having to sweep everything before AND after vacuuming because it fails to pick up larger stuff and then leaves the fine stuff behind.
And let's see, other annoyances include the ease with which the brush attachment falls off the holder; the fragility of the sweeper belt; the fact that it's a beast to try to maneuver around the house; and oh yeah, the fact that it doesn't do the job it's designed to do.
I hate this Eureka model. Hate it. And I am ordering a bagless Bissell to replace it. You may not consider this a helpful review because of the depth of my dislike for this unwieldy clunker, but at least let this be a warning that Consumer Reports doesn't know everything. They're testing new vacuums against each other; not living with a single vacuum over the long-term. And while the Eureka The Boss Smart-Vac might perform great right out of the box, it's still absurdly heavy and unwieldy and its performance goes steadily and disappointingly downhill with each use. |

Lasted 8 years...would have been longer if not for plastic parts! |
|
I've had my boss 8 years. After 3 months, my hose end chipped apart, but I was still able to use the attachments...kept chipping over time. The part that holds the handle upright and engages/ disengages the brush propulsion stopped working well after a couple of years, but I could push the handle forward and get it to stop the brush rotation ( and noise!) while using the on board tools. It was annoying, but I did this for years now. About this time, the level adjustment seemed not to work any longer and i could no longer switch the brush off for hard floors. Then about 3 weeks ago, the foot pedal pops off while vacuuming. No problem, I pop it back on, finish and click the handle into place.....WHAM! Down comes the handle on my foot and the plastic foot piece went flying. I messed with it a few more times without any luck. Now it just kind of lays there flat, handle on the floor and the brush will not engage. My husband can probably fix it, but I am tired of the cheap plastic parts! Did a good job cleaning (suction and carpet fluff) for the first five years, now, not so much! It will eat rugs if you are not careful. The vacuum is pretty heavy, especially on stairs, but the hose suction was great and the hose stretches nicely! It moves forward well on all surfaces due to the brush pulling it forward. It takes some work to pull it toward you, so if you have back problems, I wouldn't recommend this vacuum. Overall, I guess I got my monies worth. I think I paid around $130 new. I guess I was pretty lucky to make it last for so long! Considered buying another one, but it sounds like the plastic parts have gotten worse and people are having more problems. I never had to take it for repairs, but maybe I should have when the brush engaging started to malfunction. |
