Customer Reviews for  'Makita BL1830 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Battery'

Take care of your li-ions and they'll take care of you...
Previously I had gotten the LXT406 combo set and it came with only 2 of the 1830's and since I always seem to have one of them in the drill/driver and found myself constantly moving the other one between the skil and the sawzall. So I decided to get one more and I'm glad I did. My friend has the 1815 compacts but they have nowhere near twice the capacity as these guys. If you are thinking of saving some dough and getting the compacts, I would recommend that you don't. For one thing these batteries won't get as hot under load as the compacts. Second, they last more then twice the time.

Btw, if you use these with high drain tools like I do with the 6.5" circular (I guess I should stop calling them skil's) they do get hot when ripping 4x8 plywood sheets. Be careful and let them rest before popping them in the charger. Heat is what really kills these batteries (Li-ions). Ask anyone with a laptop who "accidentally" left their pcs on a couch or bed and they'll tell you their batteries don't quite perform as when they were new.

The battery itself came in retail packaging and looked brand new (sold by Myallergystore.net). I've had my 2 original batteries for 2 months now and have no complaints. I've put dates on all my batteries and we'll see how long they last. My old Ni-Cd DeWalt batteries lasted 6 years of moderate to light use. If these last at least 4 years, twenty bucks a year isn't too bad...

worth every penny
A bit havey but with a lot of stored power.
Used with the cordless JIGSAW and worked for hours.
Great item with a great price (compared to the price in ISRAEL).

New battery for much less than in the big box stores
The Makita 1830 battery, even though it is heavier than the Makita 1815 battery, is much nicer to use in the drills and saws. It lasts much longer and seems to have more power than the 1815 batteries after both are about half discharged.

Excellent battery, better than 1.5
More/longer power and doesn't cost much more than the 1.5 amp style; just a little heavier. No negative issues with it and charges fast. Cheaper to buy 2 of these seperately rather than the double pack, for some unknown reason. Myallergystore.net pricing is much less expensive then local stores, such as, Home Depot (almost half as much at Myallergystore.net). Highly recommend for the LXT series owners. If not, get the bare tools and buy a battery WITH a charger, and another battery, or get the great drill/driver set with 2-1.5 batteries and add the 3 amp size as needed. The 3.0 works twice as long and does not seem to have the problems reported of the 1.5 and can be used easily in all LXT tools. Be aware the battery should cool after use for at least 15 minutes before re-charging. I had a 1.5 mysteriously die on me after very little use but it was just out of warrantee.

Excellent battery, amazing life
I was just about to order another battery for my collection of LXT cordless tools, and I thought I would read a few of the reviews. I am really quite surprised by the 1 and 2 star ratings, with people complaining about the short run time life of these batteries. My experience is totally opposite.

I bought my first kit in October 2006, shortly after Makita released this LXT series. I was working at the time for a haunted attraction, we build the entire structure from buckets of sheetrock screws, and my old 12V Makita drill batteries were done, wouldn't hold a charge. I decided to upgrade to an impact driver as well as a new drill. I have used the daylights out of that impact driver, it's one of the best tool investments I've ever made (and I have a LOT of tools!). The original batteries from 2006 are still going strong, I really can't tell that they have aged at all. What I do now is buy another battery every year, knowing that eventually they will start to wear out but this way I won't be stranded with no batteries and having to make the dreaded decision "do I buy new batteries or just chuck the drill and buy a whole new kit". I engrave the purchase date into the battery when I get it so I can track their age. I now have 5 tools in the cordless LXT line, they are all awesome, I use them a LOT. I now work every weekend for Habitat for Humanity and almost without fail every weekend someone is begging to borrow my impact driver.

Not sure what is up with the problem batteries, but I thought I'd leave a positive review. I couldn't be happier with mine, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again (and I do). I actually bought a drill kit in this series for my son a few years ago, he is also very pleased with it.
